Social Security

In the year 2001, law 87-01 that creates the Dominican system of social security was promulgated. It covers both retirement pensions and healthcare. However, it is not yet fully deployed and the services provided are very limited.
If you plan to relocate to the Dominican Republic, you must take into account that wages earned here, or the corresponding contributions made to the Dominican social security system will not count towards your retirement pension benefits back in your home country. In order to receive the full benefits at the moment of retirement, it is advisable to keep making contributions to the homeland’s social security system. This is possible in most countries, although the minimum amount of the voluntary contributions might vary.
In any case, if you are a pensioner, you will be able to keep receiving your pension benefits from your home country when you relocate here.
It is a good idea to get private health insurance

Sports

Baseball is the national sport and passion. Dominicans LOVE their baseball, and no matter where you travel to in the Dominican Republic you are likely to find at least one baseball park close by.
Be sure to catch a game if you are in the country during the official season. With more than 400 Dominican players that have made their way to the Major Leagues, the country is an authentic goldmine of baseball stars.

Golf is fast becoming one of Dominican Republic top attractions. The world famous "teeth of the Dog" golf course in Casa de Campo is considered one of the most beautiful in the world. And with nearly thirty golf courses in the country and a perfect weather, it is always "tee time" in Dominican Republic!
If you want to practise sport surrounded by this lush nature, the Dominican Republic is a paradise for adventure sports like no other in the Caribbean. The colorful waters of its shores are the perfect scenery for sailing, boat rides, deep sea fishing, jet skiing and scuba diving. The north coast resort of Cabarete is one of the best spots in the world for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
If you go inland you will be able to enjoy horse back riding, cycling, river rafting and much more ...
